Oct. 30, 2007
MOSCOW, Idaho - Emer Deane, the Consul General of Ireland, will be the keynote speaker at the University of Idaho's next Martin Forum. She also is the first Irish representative to visit Idaho in several years.
Free and open to the public, the lecture, entitled “Ireland Today – Many Shades of Green," will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8 in the university’s Student Union Building Silver and Gold room.
Deane will discuss contemporary Ireland’s relationship with the rest of the world, focusing particularly on what factors contributed to the country’s economic resurgence and its resultant role in the European Union and wider international community.

From 1998 to 2001, she served as the Irish community officer at the Irish Embassy in London.
She also served in the Political Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs, dealing with North America among other issues. For the four years immediately prior to her current position, she served as the Department of Foreign Affairs personnel officer.
During her visit, Deane also will meet with Washington State University faculty in a reception hosted by Vice Provost Mary Wack.
