Focus on Leadership: University of Idaho Schedules Date for Nellis Inauguration
Aug. 27, 2009
MOSCOW, Idaho – University of Idaho President M. Duane Nellis will be inaugurated officially as the institution's 17th president on Friday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. in a ceremony at the ASUI-Kibbie Activity Center. The theme for the inauguration is Honoring Our Legacy: Past, Present and Future.
"Our focus is and must be on maximizing our outstanding academic quality, innovations and statewide leadership to fuel Idaho’s and our nation’s economic progress and quality of life," said Nellis. "It’s an honor and a privilege to join the University of Idaho at this pivotal time, as we embrace our legacy and lead an ambitious agenda to create a brighter future for Idaho and all of our students."
Kathy Aiken, dean of the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, serves on the inauguration planning committee.
"Inaugurations in general are not just about the formal ceremony where the president is installed," she said. "The University of Idaho is organizing several leadership-themed events around the ceremony to help our university community and key stakeholders explore more fully how its role as a flagship institution can provide greater leadership to our state under President Nellis. We're excited to be able to set the stage for Idaho's future."
Additional details about all activities and events will be available as plans are finalized in the coming weeks. The suite of inaugural activities, part of Celebration of Leadership Week, includes events for the university community, state and national leaders, and for the general public. A Web site has been established and will be updated with information about the inauguration: www.uidaho.edu/inauguration.
