MOSCOW, Idaho – "Up On The Wall, 6 Painters From The West" is a collection of works that uses contemporary trends in painting and different approaches to the painted surface. The exhibit will appear at the University of Idaho's Prichard Art Gallery Oct. 16 - Dec. 5.
An artist lecture will take place on Thursday, Oct. 15 at the University of Idaho TLC 040 at 5:30 p.m., and the opening reception is from 5 - 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16.
"Up On The Wall" combines landscape, figurative and abstract art. The exhibit is intentionally diverse to give an overview of current practices.
“The work we chose is diverse and, we think, accurately represents the wide range of artists that the Pacific Northwest has to offer.” said Melissa Bixby, third year graduate sculpture student at the University of Idaho.
The six artists featured in the exhibit include: Squeak Carnwath of Oakland, CA; Roll Hardy of Portland, OR; Travis Ivey of Laramie, WY; Mary Josephson of Portland, OR; Kasey Keeler of Spokane, WA; and WSU graduate Michael Schultheis of Seattle, WA.
This exhibit also gives two University of Idaho Masters of Fine Arts candidates the opportunity to expand their understanding of a gallery work environment while co-curating with and under the supervision of Prichard Assistant Director Nara Woodland.
Melissa Bixby and Rachael Eastman will gain priceless experience and increase their professional skills to prepare them for the workplace. “As an artist preparing to enter the world of fine art outside of academia it is great to see from the inside what is expected when applying to galleries and how the process works from start to finish” said Rachael Eastman, a third year graduate student at the University of Idaho.
The Prichard Art Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Gallery is closed Monday. The gallery, an outreach facility of the University of Idaho, is located at 414/416 S. Main St. on the corner of Fifth and Main street in downtown Moscow. Admission is free.
