UI Scientific Research Society Inducts Members For Achievements

MOSCOW -- The University of Idaho chapter of Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society inducted the following into membership this spring for their research achievements or potential:

Thomas Williams, from Monroe, Ga., is the laboratory director for the UI’s College of Science and an adjunct faculty in the geology department. He manages the college’s electron microcopy and X-ray laboratory, teaches geology, and conducts research on granites and ore deposits

Dan Strawn, soil chemist who researches and teaches about contaminants and nutrients in soils; from Concord, Sonora and Davis, Calif.

Fu-Sheng Sun, visiting scientist in light metal research at UI’s Institute for Materials and Advanced Processing. He comes from Beijing, China, where he worked for the Titanium Alloys, Powder Metallurgy and High Temperature Coating Lab., Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials. He works to develop affordable high-performance titanium heat exchangers, cost-effective powder metallurgy titanium components for automobiles, and stronger, tougher titanium alloys through deep-freeze technology.

Meghan Towner, zoology graduate student, who researches locomotor movements in mutant animals, from Oakdale, NY.

Sigma Xi is a national honorary of nearly 75,000 scientists and engineers who were elected because of their research achievements or potential. Sigma Xi has more than 500 chapters at universities and colleges, government laboratories and industry research centers.
